Romania is a state located on South-Eastern part of Europe, by form of government it is a democratic republic. The capital of Romania is Bucharest. The name of the country came from Latin „Romanus” – Roman. Highest legislative power in Romania belongs to bicameral parliament. From 1955 Romania is a full member of the UN; it became a member of NATO in 2004 and European UNI0N in 2007. Romania shares borders with the following countries: Ukraine (North and East), Moldova (North-East), Bulgaria (South), Serbia and Hungary (West). Romania is washed by the Black Sea. Total area of Romania is 238 391 square kilometers, and it is the largest country in South Eastern Europe and 12th in the whole of Europe.
Current Constitution of Romania was adopted in November of 1991. According to the constitution, Romania is a unitary state with republican form of government. The head of the state is the president, which is chosen by the people of Romania for the term of four years. Bicameral parliament consists of Senate and House of deputies. Senators are chosen by proportional system. Parliament deputies are chosen for the term of four years.
