Hong Kong is officially called the Special Administrative Region of Hong Kong - a special administrative region of China, a leading financial center of Asia and one of the leading in the world.
Hong Kong is located on the Kowloon Peninsula, the western, southern and eastern sides are surrounded by the South China Sea, and Hong Kong is situated on more than 260 islands, the largest of them - Hong Kong.
On the northern part Hong Kong borders with the special economic zone of Shenzhen in the Guangdong Province. Hong Kong is divided into three parts: the island itself in Hong Kong, Kowloon and the New Territories. Hong Kong is a region of the Pearl River Delta. In 1842 Britain seized Hong Kong and it was its colony until 1997, when China won sovereignty over the territory. According to the China-British Declaration and the Basic Law of Hong Kong, it is an autonomous territory until 2047.
Given the basic law that serves as the constitution of Hong Kong SAR, the local authorities can provide the ability to save the sovereignty over all matters and affairs of the territory except defense and foreign politics. When Hong Kong was a colony, the British Queen appointed governors. However, after the territory returned under the Chinese rule, the Chief Minister of Administration of the Hong Kong presides. Minister is elected by the Committee, which is made up of 800 people from the Hong Kong business elite.
