Lao People’s Democratic Republic is the official name of Laos, a state which is located in South-Eastern part of Asia. The capital of Laos is Vientiane. The country shares borders with the following states: Thailand (West), Vietnam (East), Cambodia (South), Yunnan Province of China (North), Myanmar (North-West).

Laos does not have any sea borders. Laos is covered by dense forests, the landscape has low hills and mountains, the largest peak is Bia, its height is 2817 m. Mekong River flows along the border with Thailand and Myanmar, Vietnam and Laos are divided by Chyongshon mountains.

Despite the small number of population, Laos is home for about 70 different tribes and nationalities. Administratively Laos is divided into 16 provinces, metropolitan prefecture and capital municipality. The provinces are divided into 140 districts, which consist of 11,000 communes. The country is ruled by People's Revolutionary Party of Laos, a communist type party. Lao president is elected by the parliament for 5 years. The Prime Minister of Laos controls the government system. The Prime Minister is appointed by the president with approval of Parliament. The party controls the government's policy; The Politburo consists of 9 members and the Central Committee consists of 49 members.
